Exiles and “neos”. When migrations meet and recompose local sociabilities

International audiencehis paper aims to present the system put in place nationally to process migrants and its role in the revitalisation of rural spaces, taking the rural Ariège department as a case study. The system is based on a number of institutional and non-institutional stakeholders and, in the case under study, a reception centre for asylum seekers. Social workers use the establishment as a base for a series of projects to provide migrants with administrative, material and linguistic support. The active participation of neo-rural collectives plays a fundamental role in a context where the local population is increasingly called on to provide support following the introduction of tougher policies on migrants
